Hello.. first of all thank you for your detailed report.
It would still be interesting to know whether a so-called reset, reboot on the R-Link would have solved the problem (even if only temporarily) in the last two glitches (check electronics, STOP). To do this, hold down the power button on the R-Link until the boot process starts.
Such reboots can work wonders in 90% of these electronic problems.
It's no different than a computer. If it freezes, only a reboot will help so that all the bits and bytes can return to their original place. 
Such a reboot can also be done preventively every now and then even if no problems have occurred.
Doesn't do any harm, but can prevent future electronic problems in advance
